Ugh, the ideas of the past. I "like" the book because it sets a clear tone as to the expectations of women back in the day, even if I am 100000% disagreeing with the notions suggested by a father to his daughters. I bought it to work on my thesis on Feminism in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and it's great because, working it off Mary Wollstonecraft's Vindication, you get strong voices as to the expectations put upon men and women, and it's proven to be quite good.Product details

JJ Rousseau is a great writer and his teaches are brilliant.Emile is the foundation for pedagogy science.
i read this briskly for my childhood psychology class decades ago. i reread it this week. the author discusses his plentiful observations on raising a child. while some suggestions are really common sense / It is exciting to note how his observations formulated later child and developmental and educational theorists. As a psychologist AND as a dad / this is an essential resource and ought to be read by anyone who studies childhood or works professionally with children and parents. It is unduly wordy as is typical of the era. I give it a solid A and highly recommend it.
The argument is deeply flawed, especially his argument, regarding the education of women. In fact, I recommend reading it, and then reading Wollstoncraft's "A vindication of the rights of women" to get a counter point. But it is a classic, nonetheless. Flawed, but influential.
The formatting is fine. Nothing special. Nothing bad. Perfectly fine for academic and casual reading.
The problem is the printing not the subject. the pages are too wide---too much print across the page. its like reading a kids essay paper.
This book did not include the preface, but I was able to get it online. The book had sufficient size print, making it easy to read. It is helpful for both psychology majors to understand Rousseau's perspective as well as for those who work with children.
This book is is too large and the text too small to read it comfortable. Not sure why anyone would print text books in smaller letters than 12 points especially on 8.5 x 11 inch pages and without columns?
